16-year-old girl makes parachute jump in memory of soldier dad killed in Afghanistan

A 16-year-old girl from Leicestershire has made her first parachute jump in memory of her dad, who died whilst serving in Afghanistan ten years ago.

Jordan Shirley, from Syston, lost her father, Daniel, when she was just six years old.

Daniel was killed ten years ago in Afghanistan while fighting the Taliban.

To mark the anniversary, Jordan wanted to do something different in his memory.

Daniel was a member of the parachute regiment for 12 years, and Jordan remembers him telling her that parachuting was “the best experience ever.”

She said: “He was an absolutely amazing dad to me and my brother and an amazing soldier. He has been my guardian angel and he is my inspiration to get me through every day.”

The money raised from the parachute jump will go to the charity ‘Scotty’s Little Soldiers’.

The charity supports families who have lost a family member at war, by providing gifts at Christmas, birthdays and on occasions like anniversaries of bereavements.
