New plans for a £22m development, which includes a 165 room hotel, on the grounds of the Granby Hall car park have been revealed.
The plans have been developed by Leicester Tigers and the site will be situated next to their Welford Road ground.
The hotel will be one of the largest corporate event venues in the East Midlands and will sit on a 1.7 acre plot, which is the size of the existing Granby Hall car park site.
In addition to the 165 rooms, the proposal features meeting rooms and conference space, reception, lounge and dining areas, as well as a fitness suite, restaurant, sky bar and car park space for hotel guests.
The development is being led by Leicester-based Pick Everard and the plans are now said to be close to being finalised.
Tigers chief executive Simon Cohen said: “It’s been a detailed process to get to this point and we thought it was important to share an update on the progress so far.”
“Liaising with potential investors and the city council, we’re close to reaching an agreement with a global hotel provider to operate a high quality hotel complex which will add an exciting dimension for fans, partners, businesses and the city of Leicester.”
“As UK rugby’s best-supported club, sport continues to be a driving force in putting this city on the map and the fact that we will be able to offer top-of-the-range accommodation will enhance the city’s strong sporting profile.”
