Police appeal after 90 year old man assaulted in Leicester City Centre

Police are carrying out enquiries after a 90-year-old man was assaulted in Market Street in Leicester City Centre. The victim was approached by a man who pushed him causing the victim to fall backwards hitting his head on a bench. The incident took place near Greggs Bakery in Market Place around midday on Wednesday 21st September.

The victim sustained an injury to his head and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 8” tall, of slim or athletic build and in his 20s. He is clean shaven and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a pale blue hooded jacket and baggy black tracksuit bottoms. He carried an Adidas backpack which had a white leaf emblem.

Christine Perry, the investigating officer said: “This was a cowardly attack on a vulnerable elderly man and he has been left shaken by his ordeal”.

“It happened in an area of Market Place that would have been very busy at midday.”

“We would like to hear from anyone who was in area and saw the incident or someone matching this description.”
