Armed Police were at the center of an incident in Leicester city centre today, which subsequently resulted in the arrest of a man.
Police officers were supported by an armed response team at the scene of a block of apartments on High Street, at lunchtime today (April 15).
The area around Shires Lane and St Peters Square was cordoned off for about an hour whilst officers entered the building.
A man was later led away by police in handcuffs.
Leicestershire Police later confirmed they were responding to reports of a man with a firearm in an apartment located in High Street.
In a statement, Leicestershire Police said: “In the interests of officer and public safety, firearms officers were deployed to the scene.”
“A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.”
The man has been arrested and remains in police custody.
