Armed police end siege in New Parks peacefully

An armed siege in the New Parks area of Leicester has been resolved peacefully.

Police were called to a property on Keightley Road at 7am this morning (Friday 10 March).

A 40-year-old man was inside the flat and refused entry to the Police. It was believed one other person was in the flat.

Trained negotiators and firearms officers spoke with the man for much of the day. The man agreed to leave the flat almost ten hours later, just after 5pm.

The man was then arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

A 48-year-old woman was found inside the flat unharmed. She is now helping police with enquiries and is being treated as a witness.

Roads in the area which had to be cordoned off, will shortly to be reopened. Residents have been advised that it is safe for them to go about their normal business.

A police spokesperson said: “We regret the inconvenience that this incident has undoubtedly caused local people. Public safety, and that of our officers, has been of paramount importance throughout this 10 hour operation and I am pleased that it has been resolved peacefully.”
