Want to know what’s planned for former BHS store in Leicester city centre?

Work is progressing on the site of the former BHS store in Leicester city centre.

The shop on Gallowtree Gate is being split into a number of new outlets including Sports Direct, USC, Everlast Fitness Club and Flannels.

Preparatory work started on the site last year after the building was taken on by Mike Ashley, the owner of SportsDirect.

He said he wanted to convert the 100,000 square foot store into the “Selfridges” of sports retail – bringing together Sports Direct alongside its fashion brands USC and Flannels.

It’s believed the main floor and upper floors will house the retail shops, while the basement will be used for his gym business Everlast Fitness Club.

The exterior of the store has been boarded up with signs announcing the opening of the new stores, as work continues inside the huge site.

A spokesman for SportsDirect said: “We’re delighted to have acquired such a fantastic site, which will enable us to significantly enhance our offering to customers in Leicester.”

The building has been vacant since BHS collapsed in 2016 with the loss of 50 jobs.
