A body found in a Leicestershire village yesterday afternoon had been there ‘for some time’ say police.
They added that due to the time the body had been there, it has made their investigation more ‘complex and lengthy’.
Leicestershire Police were called to Markfield Lane in Botcheston at 1:18pm yesterday afternoon, after the body was found by the side of the road.
The road was closed at the junction with Reservoir Road and Hunt Close for several hours as investigations continued.
A cordon remains in place today while Police search a wooded area near the road. A tent has been erected in the woodlands close to the activity.
Detective Inspector Tim Lindley, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our enquiries remain at an early stage while we work to establish the circumstances surrounding the find and the identity of the deceased.”
“What we can confirm from early enquiries is that the person found appears to have been deceased for some time and in light of this, our enquiries are more complex and may become more lengthy.”
“The investigation is very much ongoing and we will provide an update when we are in a position to do so.”
