Bomb squad called to Leicestershire village as homes are evacuated

The bomb squad and Police are at an address in a Leicestershire village after the arrest of a man earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to a property on Vicarage Close, Newbold Colerton, near Ashby.

A statement released by Leicestershire Police said: “A warrant was executed earlier today at an address in Newbold Coleorton under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.”

Detectives have confirmed a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances. He remains in police custody.

A number of homes have been evacuated following the search warrant and a cordon remains in some parts of the village.

However police have said there is no evidence that this has links to terrorism and is not being treated as a terrorist incident.

Emergency services remain at the scene of the property, as enquires continue.
