A ‘First’ double decker bus has crashed into a bridge in Leicester, injuring six passengers.
The incident happened today just before midday at the railway bridge on Barkby Road.
Emergency services were called at 11.20am this morning. Police confirmed five people were taken to hospital as a precaution, and another person was treated at the scene.
Engineers from Network Rail inspected the bridge and confirmed there was no damage to the bridge. Rail services were suspended for approximately 20 minutes after the incident.
A First Leicester spokesperson confirmed one of the company’s buses had crashed into the bridge.
He said: “We have been informed by the emergency services at the scene that no serious injuries were sustained but five passengers walked away with minor injuries. Our driver was shaken but uninjured.”
“We will be undertaking an investigation into the cause of the incident.”
