One of Leicester’s busiest roads is due to close for several nights today as resurfacing work is scheduled.
London Road will close for two nights as part of an ongoing improvement programme costing Leicester City Council £3.9million.
The closure tonight is part of a number of phases in which London Road and other roads around it will be affected during this month.
London Road will be closed to inbound traffic from 7pm tonight from De Montfort Street to Waterloo Way.
Waterloo Way will also be closed from London Road towards Regent Road.
Motorists are being warned of the closures and to expect delays whilst the work is carried out. Clear signs will be put in place and traffic will be redirected.
The roads are expected to reopen at 6am tomorrow morning.
The overnight closure is part of a wider scheme by the city council to make London Road a “safer and more attractive route” for cyclists and pedestrians.”
Martin Fletcher, director of highways at Leicester City Council, said: “London Road is an extremely busy route and we’re working hard to ensure these major improvements are carried out with the minimum of disruption.”
“By doing this work overnight, we can keep the road open during peak hours for the high volume of traffic that needs to use the road.”
