Cannabis factory discovered in house fire in Highfields

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue discovered a number of cannabis plants at a terrace house in the Highfields area of Leicester after a fire broke out.

The incident happened yesterday morning (August 13) at a property in Myrtle Road.

Police cordoned off the road and surrounding streets, while the fire was dealt with.

Fire crews tackled the blaze for about an hour before it was out. Once inside the property, officers discovered a number of cannabis plants.

Police said the property was unoccupied at the time of the incident and nobody was injured.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is being carried out by the fire service.
