Leicestershire Fire and Rescue were called to a property in the Evington Road area after a fire broke out, which led to the discovery of a cannabis plant.
Firefighters responded to a call just before 10.50pm last night to a property on the corner of Kingston Road and Devana Road, off Evington Road.
Smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the building, however firefighters managed to tackle the blaze and bring it under control.
Nobody was in the property at the time of the fire, however when firefighters searched the building they came across a number cannabis plants.
Police were alerted who placed a cordon around the immediate area. Investigations are being carried out in the property and no one has been arrested at the moment.
It is believed the property is vacant and has been empty for a number of months.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Kingston Road in Leicester just before 10.50pm yesterday following a fire at a property.”
“Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance at the scene.”
“Following a search of the property, a quantity of what are believed to be cannabis plants were found.”
“No-one was inside the property and no-one was reported to have been injured in the incident.”
