Christmas lights switch on in Leicester

Yes it’s that time of the year with Christmas fast approaching. To mark the festive season the Christmas lights switch on will take place in Leicester on Thursday 17 November on Humberstone Gate West.

City Mayor, Peter Soulsby will be joined by X Factor winner Sam Bailey along with co-actors from the pantomime Jack and The Beanstalk. Also making a guest appearance will be the cast of Graese from the Curve show.

The programme will begin from 4pm with goody bags up for grab outside Visit Leicester and the main Christmas light switch on due to start at 6:30pm. Performing on stage will be Johnny and the Goodtime Boys closing the show at 8pm.

There will be lots of street performances, including drumming shows taking place around the city. Adding to the festivities will be a Christmas funfair on Humberstone Gate West. St Peter’s Square will be transformed into Snowtopia with the Snow Queen.

The big wheel returns to Jubilee Square from 12 November – 8 January, where you will be able to enjoy amazing views of the Christmas lights and Leicester landmarks. Also at Jubilee Square will be reindeer alongside staff from Twycross Zoo.

Highcross will be giving little ones the chance to meet Father Christmas at Santa’s Log Cabin from 19 November. Advance bookings can be arranged with prices starting from £5.
