Excited crowds gathered in Humberstone Gate in Leicester last night for the big Christmas lights switch-on.
Thousands of people came to see the decorations, including thousands of twinkling pea-lights on the Clock Tower Christmas tree, light up.
There was a great, festive atmosphere, as people enjoyed the live music, street food and entertainment.
While Humberstone Gate was the focus for the lights switch-on, there was also a brass band in Town Hall Square, where visitors could see a traditional nativity scene and an animated display of Woodland Tales.
And for those who love a good festive film, there was a special treat this year as Leicester’s new market square hosted a free outdoor screening of the Christmas classic, Elf.
A packed programme of attractions have been planned this year, including a spectacular ice rink in Jubilee Square, the big wheel and the chance to meet Santa in his grotto free of charge.
