Concern over the number of proposed developments across Leicestershire

Councillors have put on record their concerns over the “sheer volume” of major development proposals currently under consideration.

Councillor David Bill from the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council expressed concern at the number of proposed developments in Hinckley and the wider Leicestershire area.

He moved a motion at the Council meeting to highlight issues surrounding the strategic growth plan. This includes the proposed development of an A46 expressway and a freight depot.

Councillor Bill said that his reasons for raising the motion were concerns over local people not being as aware as they could be of the proposals.

Residents often have concerns that new developments will worsen local amenities, reduce their wellbeing and perhaps even undermine the capital values of their home.

Councillor Bill said: We know that Leicestershire is a prosperous area and that businesses want to operate here and people want to live here. It is totally understandable.”

“But the people who already live and work here should have the opportunity to have their say when it comes to development. Ultimately, they are the ones affected.”
