Delays on A42 after lorry fire in Leicestershire

There are delays on the A42 this morning after a lorry fire between Ashby-de-la-Zouch and the M42 last night.

One lane remains closed on the southbound carriageway this morning for resurfacing works. This is expected to cause traffic delays this morning.

Fire crews were called to the scene at around 9.30pm last night, and spent hours bringing the fire under control.

Long queues of traffic built up on the A42 as emergency services dealt with the situation.

There was severe damage to the lorry and firefighters believe the blaze was caused by overheated brakes.

The lorry has now been removed from the scene.

Drivers are advised to check delay times before they set off on their journey and avoid the area if at all possible.
