Elderly woman assaulted by burglars

An elderly woman was left with severe bruising after being assaulted by burglars in her neighbourhood.

The incident happened in Asquith Boulevard on Monday (17 July) at 9.50am, when the lady heard noise of smashing glass. She went over to a nearby property to see what was happening.

As she approached the property she called the Police. It was at this point she was knocked to the ground by one of two men.

Police attended the scene by which point the men had ran off.


The 75-year-old received hospital treatment for significant bruising to her head and lower lips. She also received grazes to both hands after falling over.

She has since been released from hospital.

One of the suspects has been described as wearing a grey hooded top, the other man was wearing a white jacket.

Police say the men gained entry to the nearby property by smashing a rear ground floor window. At this stage it is unknown what was taken from the address.

Investigating officer PC Atchison said: “We are appealing to the public for help to identify who was responsible for the assault and also for the burglary.”

“If you were in the area of Asquith Boulevard at around this time and saw anyone acting suspiciously or the victim being assaulted, we would like to hear from you.”
