Elderly woman suffers facial fractures after finding thieves in her home

An elderly woman has been left with serious facial injuries after she was attacked in her own home by thieves.

Police believe three men broke into the woman’s home on Ashby Road in Ibstock yesterday evening (Sunday 24 February).

Officers were called at about 8.40pm to the property and discovered the elderly woman inside with serious injuries.

The victim was watching television in the lounge when she heard a noise upstairs. When she went to have a look she found three men in the property.

One of the men took the woman into another room where she was punched, while the others searched the property.

The men then ran out of the property. Police are not clear if anything has been stolen at this stage.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment for multiple fractures to her face. She still remains in hospital.

Officers are currently in the process of carrying out house to house enquiries and trawling through CCTV footage.

Detective Constable Jack Thomas is investigating the incident. He said: “This was a vicious attack on an elderly woman in her home and we will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice.”

“If you were in this area yesterday evening and saw three people acting suspiciously or maybe you saw them running away shortly before 9pm, then we need to speak to you.”
