Police were called to a city park last night after a fight broke out between two groups.
The incident happened at about 8.20pm in Bede Park, off Western Road, yesterday (15 May).
It’s believed the fight started after a disagreement between a group of women and a group of men in the park. This resulted in other people joining in the argument ending in the actual fight.
Police arrived to find a number of people gathered around a group of up to eight people believed to have been involved in the fight.
A 19-year-old man was assaulted and sustained an injury to his eye. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Officers arrested an 18-year-old Leicester man on suspicion of affray and he is currently in police custody.
PC Stu Hallam, the investigating officer, said: “We are speaking to a number of witnesses and assessing local CCTV as part of our investigation. I am keen to speak to anyone else who may have been in the park or the surrounding area at the time of the incident and may have information about what happened.”
“We know that the incident generated an audience from others in the park so I’d be keen to find out what they witnessed.”
