Emergency services have been dealing with a huge fire this afternoon at a warehouse located near St George’s roundabout in Leicester city centre.
Police have warned motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes as the fire service try to contain the blaze.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue attended the scene on Brougham Street just before 1pm this lunchtime.
On arrival the warehouse was ablaze and the owner of the building confirmed that everyone had been evacuated. It’s believed the building was used to house furniture.
Six fire engines attended the scene along with the Environment Agency and representatives from the gas and electric companies who are attempting to isolate services.
Just after 5.30pm this evening the fire service confirmed the fire has been extinguished and any hotspots are being dampened down.
Police have closed off Humberstone Road in both directions from the junction at St Georges Retail Park Roundabout to Dysart Way due to the fire.
