Five-year-old died after being hit by air gun pellet

Police investigating the death of a five-year-old boy say he may have been shot in the head with an air gun.

The boy was injured near Nanpantan Road, Loughborough, last Saturday (August 27) and was taken to hospital with a head injury. He passed away on Wednesday evening.

Police have not released the name of the boy and a post-mortem is still to take place.

Leicestershire Police want to talk to a group of rock climbers and walkers who were in the area at the time. They would also like to speak to the owners of a car with a French numberplate which was parked nearby.

Two adults arrested in connection with the incident have been released pending further investigation.

The boy’s death is currently being treated as unexplained, however a police spokesman said his injuries are ‘consistent with being hit by an air pellet’.

Officers would also like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Nanpantan Road in the afternoon and evening of Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police on 101.
