The northbound carriageway of the M1 has been closed near Lutterworth due to excess water.
The closure is near Junction 20 of the motorway, with traffic being taken off the motorway at the slip roads to go round the roundabout and back on at J20.
Highways England officers are at the scene working to clear the flooding.
Traffic is queuing on the northbound carriageway, as vehicles try to come off the slip road to get back onto the motorway.
Leicestershire Police have advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and drive safely given the wet conditions.
To add to the travel woes, a car had earlier broken down between Junction 19 and 18 blocking one lane. This has now been cleared and all lanes have reopened.
