11-year-old hit by car near Swadlincote

An 11-year-old child has been airlifted to hospital this morning after being hit by a car near Swadlincote.

Police were called to the scene of the collision on the A444 at Castle Gresley at around 7.40am today (14 February).

It’s believed the girl was walking on Burton Road, near Toons furniture store, when she was hit by the car.

The girl was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by Air Ambulance for treatment. No details have been released on the severity of her injuries.

Burton Road in Castle Gresley has been closed between the Cadley Hill Island and Toons furniture store due to the collision.

Drivers have been advised to find alternative routes where possible.
