Man charged with attempted murder after shots fired in Leicester city centre

A 23-year-old man from Leicester has been charged with attempted murder after a gun was reportedly fired in Leicester city centre.

Ahmed Hussain, of Chesterfield Road, is also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The charges relate to an incident in York Street during the early hours of Sunday morning (8 July), when a report was received of a firearm having been discharged.

A 16-year-old boy from Leicester was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A 33–year-old man from Birmingham arrested on Thursday 19 July on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released with no further action.
