There were large delays on Narborough Road South in Leicester this evening after a car fire on the busy road.
Both sides of the dual carriageway were closed, while fire crews tackled the blaze.
The fire caused a thick black smoke over the road, creating hazardous driving conditions.
After the fire was put out, the road lanes were slowly opened. However, one of the lanes into the city remained closed.
Area Tradfic Control tweeted at 4.50pm: “Narborough Road South closed citybound between Fosse Park & Braunstone Lane. Very heavy traffic northbound on the west service road.”
Traffic continued to move slowly along the whole of Narborough Road South until 6.30pm, then slowly returned to normal as the backlog eased.
One of city bound lanes continues to remain closed. It is not believed anyone was hurt in the fire.
