A woman was knocked off her bike by a car and left injured in the middle of the road, as the car drove off in Leicester.
CCTV footage of the incident has been released, which took place on Upperton Road at 4.16am on Wednesday 19 July.
Residents were woken up by the woman screaming then saw the car reversing and “speeding off”.
The owner of a local newsagent, Rama Varambhia, heard the accident and looked out of her window. She and her husband then rushed out to help the woman.
Another car passing-by also stopped and the driver got out to help.
Mr Varambai said: “The first driver stopped for a few seconds, but then reversed and drove away. How could you do that? How could you leave someone like that. The driver didn’t even get out of the car to see if she was alive.”
The woman was injured and taken to hospital. Luckily for the cyclist, her rucksack cushioned her head as she fell and she has now come out of hospital.
The cyclist has since returned to the shop to thank the couple.
An accident in 2016 in the same spot killed two men. Subhash Varambhia believes some sort of traffic calming measure is needed at the junction.
Leicestershire Police are trying to trace the driver involved in the crash.
