Shoppers queue from 6am in Leicester for the Boxing Day sales

Just when you thought you’ve finished with shopping for the year, the Boxing Day sales have started.

Retailers are slashing prices on everything, from clothes to electronics, homeware to handbags – and things you’ve never known you needed.

People across Leicester have got up early to grab a sales bargain, with queues forming outside some stores like Next from 6am.

The Highcross Shopping Centre today

One of the most busiest stores today is Zara, with shoppers having to wait in long queues of up to 30 minutes to pay for their items.

The Highcross in the city centre opened at 9am today and will close at 7pm. The shopping centre is expecting nearly 100,000 shoppers during the day.

Most of the stores in the Highcross will be open today, however John Lewis is closed and will open tomorrow (27 December).

Fosse Park opened at 10am today and will close at 6pm today.

The Boxing Day sales will last into the new year, with further price cuts expected in January as shops rid themselves of old and Christmas stock ready for new seasonal lines.
