A busy road into Leicester city centre will be closed tomorrow, due to resurfacing work by Leicester City Council.
The repair work will be undertaken on a stretch of Aylestone Road, at the junction with Freemen’s Common Road.
It means a road closure will be in place all day Sunday (10 February) along Freemen’s Common Road, between Counting House Road and Aylestone Road while the work is underway.
Access to Morrisons supermarket and the nearby Vauxhall car show room will be maintained. Outbound traffic will be diverted via Welford Road, Knighton Lane East and Saffron Lane.
The road is due to reopen as normal in time for the morning rush hour on Monday, February 11.
Director of City Highways at Leicester City Council, Martin Fletcher, said: “This is a very busy part of the city’s road network, and the road surface is showing the wear and tear caused by tens of thousands of vehicles using it every day.”
“There is less traffic on a Sunday, which why the work is being carried out then.”
“It will inevitably lead to some traffic disruption, so I’d advise people to use an alternative route if possible on that day to avoid the roadworks.”
The work will cost about £70,000, funded by the city council’s highways capital programme
