Police have confirmed the body of a man found on London Road early yesterday morning died as a result of a stab wound.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on the 30-year-old man late yesterday confirming the cause of death.
Police said CCTV footage showed the man staggering along London Road before collapsing just after midnight on Wednesday 8 March.
The victim is yet to be identified, but police believe he is a local man who lived close to the city centre.
A 30-year-old man remains in police custody in connection with the incident.
Police have urged anyone who was in the area of the railway station between 11pm and 1am yesterday morning or who may have seen the victim to come forward.
Detective Martin Smalley said: “London Road is a pretty busy place, even at midnight. Taxis are still coming and going, people are making their way home on foot after a night out, and passengers are getting off late night trains. I feel sure that a number of people will have seen this man.”
