A 25-year-old man is in a serious condition following a crash on the M1, which closed the motorway for several hours over the weekend.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.
The incident involved a single vehicle – a blue MG ZR. The crash happened at around 6.50am on Saturday on the southbound carriageway of the M1 near junction 20.
Police said the young driver sustained serious injuries when his vehicle left the motorway and collided with a tree on the embankment.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The man was taken by air ambulance to the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
The M1 was closed to traffic in both directions to allow the air ambulance to land and for a thorough investigation of the scene.
The closure led to heavy traffic in the Lutterworth area as traffic was being diverted.
Detective Constable Seamus Burns is the investigating officer, he said: “Even though this collision happened early in the morning the motorway would have been busy.”
“We would like to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity and recalls seeing the vehicle being driven beforehand or the collision itself.”
“If you have any information about the circumstances around this incident we would like to hear from you.”
