There are long delays on the M1 in Leicestershire this morning, after the motorway was closed overnight due to a lorry fire.
The fire took place on the northbound carriageway between Junction 23 and Junction 23a at around 1.15am.
The lorry was carrying barrels of paint when it caught alight. Fire crews were called to extinguish the blaze and then remove the goods from the HGV.
A diversion was in place while emergency services dealt with the incident.
All lanes were reopened just after 7am this morning, well into the rush hour traffic.
Despite all lanes being open, there are still long queues on the approach to where the fire happened.
Highways England has warned drivers saying: “Please be aware that there are currently residual delays of approximately 30 mins and slow traffic for about 3.5 miles.”
