M1 re-opens after man fatally hit by lorry

M1 accident leicestershire

Part of the M1 was closed this morning after a man was hit by a lorry. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

The northbound motorway was closed for over 8 hours at junction 23 in Leicestershire. It re-opened earlier this afternoon.

It follows a report made just minutes earlier of a collision on the bridge over the M1 junction – A512 (Snell’s Nook Lane) involving one vehicle. Officers are working to establish the exact circumstances of the two incidents and the links between them.

Both the M1 and the A512 were re-opened at 1.45pm.

Leicetershire Police have thanked motorists caught up in the tailbacks for their patience and said the road closure was necessary to allow officers to carry out their enquiries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision and the events leading up to it are under investigation however if anyone witnessed either collision they are asked to contact 101, quoting incident 84 of 9 September.
