Live: M1 in Leicestershire shut for 5 hours after serious collision

Leicestershire Police are warning drivers to avoid the M1 motorway northbound after a serious collision.

Motorists have been warned of delays, with the motorway likely to be closed for five hours.

Traffic has come to a standstill after the collision which occurred between Junction 22 and 23. The northbound carriageway is currently closed.

Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident.

The crash involved four lorries. The air ambulance is also at the scene, with paramedics dealing with the injured.

Motorists are being diverted on to the A512 towards Ashby, then the A42 northbound and back onto the M1.
