The M69 in Leicestershire has been closed following a fatal accident this morning.
Highways England confirmed that a ‘multi vehicle collision’ occurred at around 9.30am this morning in which a motorbike left the motorway.
One person has sadly died in the crash. An air ambulance was also called to the scene.
The M69 is closed northbound between J1 for Hinckley and J21 for the M1. Emergency services are at the scene, being led by Leicestershire Police.
The road is likely to remain closed into the afternoon so please allow extra time for your journey and seek an alternative route if possible.
A diversion route has been put in place and road users are advised to follow the “Hollow Circle Symbol”.
The diversion route:
The diversion route involves exiting the M69 at Junction 1 and taking the third exit (right) onto the A5 south/eastbound. Continue along the A5 southbound for approximately 10.3kms to the A5/A4303 Cross in Hand Roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit (left) onto the A4303 eastbound.
Continue eastbound along the A4303 passing through the roundabouts at Magna Park and Coventry Road to the A5/A426 Lutterworth Road/Rugby Road Roundabout.
At the roundabout take the second exit (straight ahead) and continue eastbound along the A4303 to M1 Junction 20. At M1 Junction 20 take the first exit(left) onto the M1 northbound.Continue on the M1 Northbound for approximately 10.5 miles to M1 Junction 21.
