A man who raped an elderly woman in a horrendous attack in her own home has been jailed for more than 13 years at Leicester Crown Court.
Shyhiem Frances-Myers, 21, forced his way into the vulnerable woman’s home in Wigston and attacked her.
The appalling incident happened on the morning of January 13. Frances-Myers knocked on the door of the woman’s home. When she answered the door, he forced his way in and raped her. Before fleeing he stole the victim’s bank card.
The lady, distraught by what just happened, immediately called the police for help.
In February, Shyhiem-Myers pleaded guilty to two counts of rape when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court. He also admitted two counts of sexual assault and one count of theft.
He returned to court yesterday (April 13), where he was sentenced to 13-and-a-half years’ imprisonment. He was also ordered to sign the sexual offenders register for life.
Detective Constable Chris Sherwin, who led the investigation, said: “While this sentence won’t change the horrendous attack Frances-Myers subjected the victim to, I hope it offers some closure to her.”
“She has shown incredible bravery throughout this ordeal, and fully supported the police investigation allowing us to bring this offender to justice.”
