A man accused of murdering his ex-wife has claimed that she died following a violent struggle between them.
Ashwin Daudia told jurors that on the day of her death, the pair had argued and that Kiran Daudia had kicked him in the “urine area”, repeatedly hit him and swore at him.
He said that he then put his hand over her mouth before banging her head on a bannister.
The 51-year-old said he then went to his room and only realised she was dead when he returned a short time later.
Mr Daudia described putting her body inside a suitcase, saying he struggled as the suitcase was ‘a little small’. Kiran’s body was found inside the suitcase the following day, next to some rubbish bins.
He then cleaned up blood from the hallway and lounge before his youngest son, Shivam, came home from college.
Although the couple were divorced, they were still living ‘separate lives’ under the same roof. Ashwin was supposed to be moving out of the house on the day of the murder, following the sale of the family home.
Mr Daudia, of Lyme Road, Leicester, denies murder and the trial continues.
