Man arrested after woman attacked and sexually assaulted in Leicester park

Police have arrested a man this morning after a woman was seriously injured in a horrific sexual attack in Leicester.

The 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and serious sexual assault. He remains in police custody, where he is being questioned by detectives.

The woman who was attacked remains in a critical condition in hospital. She was found at around 4.45am on 3 August in a park area which is located on Cedar Road and Evington Place.

Crime Scene Investigators were seen conducting a detailed examination of the scene where the woman was found and the park was cordoned off while officers carried out their enquiries.


Lead investigator, Detective Inspector Gareth Goddard said: “Despite this arrest, our investigation is very much ongoing with a number of enquiries being progressed.”

“This woman was subjected to a horrific assault and was left with injuries leaving her in hospital in a critical condition.”
