A man has been arrested following a collision on Aylestone Road yesterday evening, which left a heavily pregnant woman with serious injuries.
Police were called to the incident which involved a vehicle and a cyclist, near the junction with Park Hill Drive, at around 9.30pm.
The driver involved in the incident failed to stop at the scene.
The cyclist, a heavily pregnant woman in her 40s, suffered serious injuries in the incident. She was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary by ambulance where she currently remains.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested today on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol. He remains in police custody.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins said: “We are continuing to provide support to the woman injured and her family as the investigation continues.”
“We do urge anyone who has any information in relation to the incident, and who has not yet spoken with us, to make contact. Anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage from the scene of the collision at the time of the incident or prior to the collision should also get in touch.”
