Man charged with starting huge fire in shopping complex in Leicester

A man has been charged with arson after a huge fire ripped through a shopping complex in the Belgrave area of Leicester.

Parvinder Singh, 27, of Nottingham, appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court yesterday.

Singh has been charged with arson and intent to endanger life. The fire occurred earlier this year in January.

More than sixty firefighters were called to the the fire in Belgrave Commercial Centre, which destroyed a number of shops and businesses.

The extensive damage to the properties forced many of the businesses to stop trading.

Singh has been remanded in custody and will appear at Leicester Crown Court in December.
