A man has died after the car he was driving was involved in a collision on the A563 Lubbesthorpe Way, near Fosse Park.
It happened at 5am this morning (22 October) on the southbound carriageway and involved two vehicles, a silver BMW and a fire engine.
The driver of the BMW, a 26-year-old man, was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he died shortly afterwards.
His 26-year-old passenger was taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment to injuries which are considered to be non-life threatening.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Lubbesthorpe Way was closed in both directions to allow for an investigation of the scene.
A diversion remains in place from the McDonald’s roundabout to Everards roundabout and motorists are advised to seek an alternative route.
Leicestershire Police would like to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and saw the collision itself or either of the vehicles being driven beforehand.
