Latest on Oadby crash that killed 21-year-old man

A man has died and another remains seriously injured after a car crash in Oadby last night.

The accident took place on Gartree Road, near the Spire Hospital, at around 11.20pm. The 21-year-old driver of a black Honda Civic was pronounced dead in hospital after the car left a country lane and crashed into a lamppost and tree.

A second man, 20, who was also in the car remains in hospital in a serious condition.

The incident did not involve any other vehicle.

Two fire crews from Central Station attended the incident. They were required to release the driver from the vehicle, before he was taken Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Gartree Road was closed in both directions between Shady Lane and Stoughton Drive South, as an investigation of the scene was carried out. The road has now reopened.

Police have launched an appeal for dashcam footage or CCTV to help establish the full circumstances of the incident and are appealing for anyone with any information regarding the incident to contact them.
