Man admits murdering his father in Leicester

A man has pleaded guilty to murder after stabbing his elderly father at his home in Glen Parva.

46-year-old Darren Whatsize pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility at Leicester Crown Court today, following the death of 92-year-old Edwin Whatsize.

The incident happened in July this year at a property in Greenlane Road, where Darren stabbed his father, while he sat in an armchair in the conservatory.

A short while later Edwin was discovered fatally wounded by his wife, who called the emergency services to the address.

Police and paramedics attended the call, however Edwin was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination revealed Edwin died of multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Darren, who remained inside the address, was arrested and later charged with his father’s murder.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Blockley said: “This case was a double tragedy for Edwin’s family who have not only had to come to terms with his death, but also deal with the fact that he was killed by his son.”

“Darren actions have left his family with immense heartache and sadness at the loss of a very much loved husband, father and grandfather.”

“This has been a difficult case and I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and thank them for their co-operation and understanding throughout our investigation and subsequent court proceedings.”

Darren will be sentenced in December. To keep up with all the latest news, please like our Facebook Page or join our Leicestershire Breaking News group.
