Man pushed in Leicester street suffers cardiac arrest

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was assaulted by two people in the Belgrave area of Leicester.

Police have arrested two men in connection with the incident. However officers continue to appeal for anyone who may have information to come forward.

The attack happened yesterday (31 May) afternoon at 3.30pm. Police were called to Redcar Road after a report of a fight in the street. Officers arrived at the scene to find a man on the ground.

It’s believed the 50-year-old victim was pushed and subsequently suffered a cardiac arrest. He has been taken to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.


Police have arrested two men, aged 19 and 22, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. They remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Mark Parish is leading the investigation. He said:  “We know there were a number of people in the area at the time and we are yet to identify everyone.  If you were in Redcar Road yesterday afternoon and witnessed the incident or the events leading up to it please get in touch.”

“Enquiries into the circumstances are continuing so if you know anything about it or have heard rumours locally we would urge you to come forward.”

“Officers will be out and about in the area speaking to local residents and locating CCTV which may help them piece together what happened. If you have any footage contact us.”
