Man sentenced to jail for child sex offences

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual activity with a child and possessing indecent images of children.

Ross Simmonds appeared at Leicester Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 26 July) to be sentenced, after admitting the offences at a previous hearing.

Simmonds pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a child and three counts of possession of indecent images of children.

The inappropriate relationship between Simmonds and his now 15-year-old victim was reported to police in March this year and an investigation commenced.

He was sentenced to serve six years in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He will also be the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.

DC Chris Perry said: “Simmonds preyed on his young victim, taking advantage of her youth and emotional inexperience.”

“Simmonds knew what he was doing was wrong, but this didn’t stop him pursuing a sexual relationship with her.”

“Guilty pleas mean the victim does not have to go through the process of a trial, and I hope his jail term allows her to move on.”
