Man shot while sitting in his car in Leicester

Police in Leicester are hunting a suspect after a man was shot with a gun in Humberstone.

Officers were called to Scraptoft Mews, off Scraptoft Lane, at about 4.45pm on Friday 3 April, following a report that a man had been shot while sitting inside a car.

The man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital to be treated for gunshot injuries.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw a black Volkswagen Tiguan leaving Scraptoft Mews that afternoon.

The car was later found abandoned in Washington Road, off Barkbythrope Road and has been recovered by police.

Detective Sergeant Scott Cairns, from Leicestershire Police’s Complex investigation team, said: “We are treating this as an isolated and pre-meditated incident and are considering whether the suspect or suspects are known to the victim.”

“While I appreciate this is a time when people should only be making necessary and essential journeys, I would like to speak to anyone who saw a black Volkswagen Tiguan in the Humberstone area of Leicester.”

“Did you notice anything unusual or suspicious about the way in which it was being driven? If you have a dashcam installed in your vehicle, then please get in touch.”

“I’d also like to speak to anyone who was in Scraptoft Lane on Friday afternoon – either in a car or on foot – and witnessed anything unusual or untoward. Any information you have could help my investigation.”
