Young man stabbed in street in Leicester

Leicestershire Police were authorised to use stop and search powers last night after a man was stabbed in a city street.

The stabbing took place on Saltersford Road in Humberstone at around 5pm. It’s believed the stabbing was linked to reports of fights in nearby Halstead Street and Fernie Road.

The 19-year-old victim of the stabbing sustained injures to his back and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Following the stabbing, officers were authorised to use emergency stop and search powers across a wide area of the east of the city.

The powers allow officers to search for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments to prevent incidents of serious violence.

The authorisation was in place between 11.44pm yesterday (Sunday 12 May) and 7am today (Monday 13 May) for Humberstone Road, Broad Avenue, Wakerley Road, Stoughton Drive, A6 London Road up to the railway station, A594, St Matthews, Melton Road and Dysart Way.

Enquiries are continuing into the incident. If you have any information that could help with the case, please call Leicestershire Police on 101.
