Motorcyclist dies and woman seriously injured after crash in Leicestershire

A motorcyclist has died and a passenger is in a serious condition after a collision in Leicestershire.

Police are appealing for witnesses or for any dash cam footage of the fatal incident.

The accident happened on Copt Oak Road, at the junction with Whitcrofts Lane, in Markfield on Sunday 7 July at 7.10pm.

The collision involved a motorcycle, a silver Vauxhall Zafira and a blue Ford C-Max.

The man riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman pillion passenger was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

One of the cars contained a family with five children and an adult. They were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham to be treated for minor injuries. 

Copt Oak Road was closed between its junctions with Beacon Road and Warrens Hill Road while officers carried out enquiries.

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is continuing.

Detective Constable John Borlase said: “Were you travelling along Copt Oak Road at around 7pm on Sunday 7 July? Did you see the collision occur or did you see any of the three vehicles involved beforehand?”

“Any information you have could significantly help my investigation.”
