Motorists warned after two crashes caused by hydroplaning this morning

Leicestershire Police are warning drivers that excessive rainfall is causing dangerous driving conditions today and vehicles are hydroplaning, particularly on the motorways and main roads.

Two crashes have occurred on the M1 this morning, causing lane closures on the motorway.

The first incident involved a crash between two cars, leading to the closure of the third lane on the southbound carriageway between Junction 23A and 23, near East Midlands Airport.

In a separate incident, a car left the carriageway at Junction 22, causing the closure of a lane.

Water on the carriageway is believed to the cause of both incidents.

All lanes have reopened following the crashes, however the Met Office is warning of further rain this morning.
