Police name mum-of-four killed in fatal collision in Leicester

A young mum who died after being hit by a car in North Evington has been named by police.

Tasneem Patel, 27, was walking with her three year old daughter on Tithe Street on Friday 7 February when the collision happened.

Tasneem died a short while later. Her daughter was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where she was treated for minor injuries.

The collision involved four cars – two of which were stationary at the time. The driver of one of the cars, a white Seat Leon, was located shortly afterwards, after initially leaving the scene.

A 20-year-old man from Leeds was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was released and remains under investigation.

Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle said: “Our investigation is ongoing and we are continuing to investigate various lines of enquiry.”

“However, I would still like to speak to anyone who was in Tithe Street or the surrounding area at the time of the collision but has not yet contacted police.”

“Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, could help our enquiries. Although this collision happened over a week ago, it is still not too late to speak to us.”

Anyone with information about the collision is urged to call Leicestershire Police on 101, quoting reference 20*74070.
