A woman was stabbed at a bus stop in Leicester by a complete stranger, shortly after dropping her child off to school.
The incident happened at 8.30am in the morning, near the junction of Groby Road and Glenfield Drive.
The attacker, Mark Cooksey, was a homeless man with mental health issues.
At first the woman hadn’t realised she had been stabbed, when the complete stranger initially lunged at her. The attack caused her to fall back.
Her attacker then threatened to kill her if he saw her again. As he threatened her, she saw the knife in his hand.
The woman suffered a stab wound to her arm, needing hospital treatment.
Cooksey then walked off. However, the victim was able to take a picture of him as he left, which allowed Police to locate and arrest him.
The man admitted causing actual bodily harm and possessing a knife. He was jailed for 18 months.
The judge said he had to consider Cooksey’s mental health condition in sentencing him and expects him to receive treatment for this whilst serving his sentence.
